In occasion of Fashion Revolution Week 2022, we celebrated upcycling and circularity!

Indeed, we teamed up with Nathalie Klok, a creative social psychologist and slow sustainable fashion expert, better known on Instagram as @lemonadeamsterdam
Nathalie introduced to us a selection of upcycling designers, therefore this selection of designers and independent brands that work beautifully with upcycling ♻️😎

Freya Simonne

Using only materials that are already in existence, Freya Simonne reworks and upcycles preloved textiles into beautiful forever pieces of upcycled clothing.

Precisely, her mission is to show an alternative way of doing fashion that actively gives back to both people and planet.

Yeah Rightii

yeah_rightii
This fashion brand from Japan started making collections by remaking used items already in 2005.
Yeah Right carefully picks up used fast fashion items one by one, wash, dissemble, cut and sew them and makes creative kind of street style garments.

Mila Sai

Upcycling_Mila Sai
Mila Sai, inspired mostly by nature, is a circular and sustainable small business on a mission to transform trash into beauty!
Micaela uses discarded glass, such as wine bottles or windows as main material for her shiny jewels.
To obtain these cool earrings, glass is combined with silver involving heat with lampwork and fusing techniques.

Upcycling designer_R-Coat
R-coat is a community-based brand that transforms broken umbrellas, a non recyclable material, into sustainable fashion. They have 30+ broken umbrella’s collection points between Portugal and Italy. Where the community can drop it off helping them and also decreasing their footprint.

Bettina Bakdal
Handcrafted fashion from Copenhagen with an eponymous line of custom dresses and sweatshirts made with recycled fabric and vintage silk scarves in mixed prints.
Bettina Bakdal’s words: “We are living in a world where the fashion industry is producing too much—more than anyone can ever even wear. We have to take responsibility and be forward thinking. We need art and beauty, not more conspicuous consumption.”

Susorignials uses second‑hand items, either donated from friends and family or thrifted. They absolutely love being able to create a new cool and unique piece out of something that someone no longer wanted. For this reason, they try to create as little waste as possible, and have plans to use scraps as stuffing for bean bag chairs, pillows, or stuffed animals

The exorbitant amount of waste generated in the fashion industry inspired Fanfare Label to represent the circular economy standard; the label is a representative of what fashion could & should look like.
The label is leading the upcycling movement, transforming vintage pieces to unique contemporary designs, combining elements of vintage & surplus clothing by giving existing materials a new life through various textile techniques.
