The most uncanny crochet patterns generated by chat GPT
Is Artificial Intelligence the future of craftsmanship?
You surely have heard of (and most likely tried yourself) chat GPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI and launched in November 2022.
Lately many crochet enthusiasts have been asking Chat GPT for crochet patterns, the results are “cursed”, as described by The Guardian in this article.
In summary the tool returns comprehensive instructions that are surprisingly accurate, but results in “AI-generated crochet monstrosities.”
Indeed ChatGPT is an AI tool, not a human, let’s not forget that! While it can replicate human language and communication, it struggles with creativity and activities that for sure involve human sensitivity.
We have selected the most uncanny AI generated crochet patterns tested by TikTok users: have a look yourself below! 👇🏽

Crochet designers are still much needed!
Overall, while AI-generated crochet patterns may not be perfect yet, they demonstrate the potential for machine learning to enhance creative endeavors and push the boundaries of what we thought was possible… Until then, crochet designers as well as makers and crafters will be much needed. And who knows, maybe artistic taste and sensibility will forever remain a human-only feature.
