Creative minds… don’t think alike!
We know this for sure and we also know that building a creative career isn’t easy at all.
This is why we are very curious to know how creative people think, explore their creative path, discover where they take inspiration from, learn fun facts about them…

We had a chat with Paolo Moscheni, an illustrator from Brescia, Italy.
Scroll down to discover more about him see what he has drawn for us ✏️

Since when do you illustrate? How did you start?

How have I started… well I’d say as a kid everyone love drawing, the difference stands between who decides to carry on with it and succeed in turning it into a hobby at first, a real passion then, and finally into a job. To speak the truth, apart from being a job, drawing for me is a necessity.

Define your style as illustrator. How would you describe it? What does inspire you?

My style has changed quite a lot over the years. Mostly has changed with the different tools I’ve experimented with. Even today I can easily divide my illustrations into different styles. There is one group of illustrations more grotesque and odd, another more tidy and sober. There is no artist, in particular, I’ve been looking at for inspiration. If I have to pick one I’d probably say Hayao Miyazaki specifically for his movies and his one and only manga (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind). Actually more than on the style (indeed our drawings are pretty different) he inspired me on practicing and getting better.

“Sometimes all you need is a figure that transmits passion more than an artist to emulate.”

Please, tell us a fun fact about you or about your work as illustrator.

A fun fact could be about how my passion for comics started. I am going back to the time when I used to draw comics in primary school for my classmates during classes. I used to sketch very incisively and quickly. I was trying to imitate the anime I was watching in TV, concentrating on the most absurd and unhealthy aspects. Pages and pages were sketched and the story was made up at the moment filled up with bad and sleazy jokes. That was extremely fun for us obviously. Today, luckily, I’m more mature and conscious, but it would make me giggle to find those pages again.
