Make your own summer sandals!
Are you tired of the classic slippers for the beach? Are your old slippers ruined? Or do you want to do a make over to your shower shoes? This macrame slippers DIY is perfect for you!
Cover that plastic cheap look and wear fancy macrame
This DIY is beginner friendly. If you are not familiar with macrame knots we have referenced video tutorials for the knots.
WHAT YOU NEED

MATERIALS
a pair of slippers (a pre-loved one would work perfectly!) macrame rope 3mm thick (we used 18 pieces of 30cm each, but the number of strings depends on the size of your slippers)
- cotton thread (same colour as the macrame rope)
TOOLS
scissors tape (to secure the strings while knotting) needle comb or pet brush
Let’s get started
STEP 1
Take the macrame rope and cut out 36 pieces of 30cm each (18 for each slipper)
Note that the exact number of strings depends on the size of your slippers. Could be less or more than 18.
Now attach them with simple Lark’s Head Knots to an other string (cut it a 10cm wider than your slipper width).

STEP 2
Now that you have all the strings in line you can make a horizontal line of double half hitch knots.
This macrame knot takes one leading rope for each row you make.
Once you have made these knots along the whole length of the thread you can start with the second row.
Now take the first outer rope as leading rope. Make knots like before, going to the opposite end.

STEP 3
Repeat till you have few rows of double half hitch knots (4 in our case).
It’s time to make the fringes!
For the upper fringes you will have to cut each Lark’s head Knot.
Now comb the strings to make them thinner and form the fringes.

STEP 4
Last step is easy, but requires attention.
Sew your macrame creation to the slipper and be sure its well secured.
Repeat the whole process for the other one!
