ABOUT THE ARTISAN
Supatra Marsh

Supatra Marsh

Supatra is a potter based in the UK. Inspired by Asian traditional handmade processes, in particular “kurinuki”, and the ethos of wabi-sabi, she celebrates the beauty of imperfection in nature.

She discovered her love for pottery when living in Singapore as a biologist, so she approached it from a scientist’s perspective. This has been reflected in her workflow with testing and improving to gain the best result.

“It’s my duty as a potter to turn this clay into something you will treasure for years to come.”

Supatra Marsh – Blank Earth studio’s founder

Her work exalts the texture and beauty of the raw clay, reminiscent of mountainous landscapes and natural terrain. Seeing the history behind pieces through the marks left by the maker is what makes handmade pottery so inspiring and special – she believes.

With this belief, Supatra founded Blank Earth. Thinking of clay as a “blank slate” helps her turning it into something very unique every time.
