How to transform waste into an opportunity
by @bigheartco
Big Heart Company grew from Cape Town, on the tip of South Africa in 2010 from the idea of Ethne, his late husband Gavin and their daughter Tracy. They started a creative studio and manufacturing workshop originally based in Woodstock.
After 10 years, Ethne thought it a good time to share their creative love with the world and so she decided to move to the UK.

According to Ethne’s vision, there are no discarded fabrics or materials, because they always offer the possibility of creating something new. For this reason, when she began with the UK production of little girls dresses and bespoke pillowcases, and she found that they had waste and “cabbage” fabric (bits left over from cutting out an item), she was determined to transform it into a great opportunity to collaborate with artisans and makers.
Here you can follow the journey of the artists involved and be inspired by their different techniques 🧵🌿
From here comes the idea of the Molli Frock initiative, which involves makers, creatives, sewers, artists from all over the world invited to intervene and reinvent the waste as blank canvas guided by their own creativity and realize kids garment 1-5 years size.
Documenting the whole process through videos and images with the hashtag #mollifrockinitiative, each garment will be signed by the artist who made it and sent back to Big Heart Co. that will show these beautiful wearable artworks, sharing them with the world at exhibitions and auctions for children’s charity.
Makers, creatives and artists from all over the world be part of this really exciting journey! The frocks will arrive in the UK in July and supposed to be done by November, click below to participate 👇🏽
