COOL PROJECT
Conscious consumers
Forget the Old Black Friday
Black Friday is getting closer and we’re sure you’ve been thoroughly made aware of it!
Your mailbox is the first witness the insistent promotional messages encouraging you to buy at bargain prices. Social media has also most likely steered you to ads and posts that push you to hurry and impulse shop.
Forget all that!
In recent years, many anti-Black Friday initiatives and green movements have been born out of the desire to boycott this messy mass-commercialized day. People are increasingly questioning and asking for something different, on the other hand, many brands themselves are also saying no to the sick logic of Black Friday month (yes, in many cases its’ no longer just a day).
Do good instead
As conscious consumers on a journey, we’d like to think of this ambiguous day as an opportunity to do good instead.
Listed here are a selection of cool initiatives with a refreshing purpose you might want to support.
Blue Friday IOC-UNESCO in Venice
IOC-UNESCO Blue Friday event aims to promote responsible consumption and support ocean protection.
A 2 day event in Venice to raise awareness on the effect that each of our choices as consumers can have on the environment and in particular on the ocean: it is estimated that purchases during Black Friday are often motivated by impulse, so much so that up to 80% of the garments and objects purchased is thrown away after only one or no use.

Green Friday
Green Friday is a growing movement born in the UK encouraging consumers to move away from impulsive and damaging shopping behaviors and embrace a different ethos instead:
– Putting down devices in favour of spending time outdoors
– Enjoying time with friends and family
– Giving, sharing and investing in worthwhile causes
More and more brands are taking part, we encourage you to read up further on other exciting initiatives out there.
As always the message is, if you still intend to shop, do shop mindfully. Avoid big corporations known for having poor environmental practices and instead invest in small businesses, local businesses, secondhand, vintage or upcycled items to keep it circular.

UNITE! Activism to End Violence against Women & Girls
Women’s rights activists have observed 25 November as a day against gender-based violence since 1981. On the same day this year UNITE! Activism to End Violence against Women & Girls, will kick-off a 16 day campaign led by the UN Secretary-General and UN Women, to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls around the world.
Did you know that nearly 1 in 3 women have been abused in their lifetime? In times of crises, the numbers rise, as seen during the COVID-19 pandemic and recent humanitarian crises, conflicts and climate disasters.
While the pandemic of violence against women is not new, it’s not inevitable, unless we stay silent.
Even more reasons to emphasize, who cares about Black Friday?
As a female founded startup, TA-DAAN coudn’t just stand by and watch.
We are donating 10% of all the orders made the 25-27th of November to the UN Trust Fund.
You can take part too by shopping small at TA-DAAN shop.
