Believe it or not, there is gender bias also in creativity!

Research has shown that creativity is often associated with stereotypically masculine characteristics, and men’s work is more likely to be deemed creative. However, new studies suggest that this stereotype is eroding over time and is less pronounced in countries with more gender equality.

It’s encouraging to see that more and more women are approaching craftsmanship, with over 80% of small artisanal businesses on the TA-DAAN e-commerce platform being founded and led by women. By supporting and encouraging the work of female artists and artisans, we can contribute to creating a more equitable and inclusive world where creativity can truly thrive.

Crafts-men vs Crafts-women

As outlined by the word “crafts-man” itself, traditionally the figure of an artisan has always been associated with men. However, the face of craftsmanship is changing, and today’s artisans are young, talented, cool, and most of the time, women.

Creativity is female

Facts are challenging the stereotype

In the last 15 years, more and more women have started their own businesses devoting themselves to craftsmanship, becoming entrepreneurs at all effects. This trend – on the rise – is well known to TA-DAAN, who has connected with over 20,000 female creatives and artisans since its foundation in 2020.

Also a research (2021) conducted in the United States using a database of 30 million profiles highlights that 54.8% of all artists are women, while 45.2% are men.

We also see that more and more women are approaching craftsmanship, indeed the great majority of small artisanal businesses on the TA-DAAN e-commerce platform are in fact 100% founded and led by women.

So here’s to the female artisans and entrepreneurs who are breaking down barriers and creating a more vibrant and diverse creative landscape. Your talent, hard work, and dedication are an inspiration, and we can’t wait to see what you’ll create next!
